In Historic Downtown McKinney, Texas, there is a boutique at 118 E. Louisiana, called Smitten, the latest retail concept by Karen Dawkins, creator and owner of The Antique Collection. With a focus on turning old into new, Ms Dawkins and her team are emphasizing the Reuse - with vintage and antique furnishings, linens, books, ephemera, ribbons and lace; the Repurpose – finding creative new uses for everyday objects, new and old; and the Refresh – clean-up, spiff up, repaint, rethink, value of their products and services. And they have done it well... green may never have looked better!
Uniquely mixing old and new, antique and mid-century, country and contemporary, junk and keepsakes - Dawkins has created a shop that could be the pages of a tabletop book. Some of the brands in Smitten might be found in high end stores such as Nordstrom or Neimans, but for those interested in being kind to the earth, there are the brands to watch – White Works Linens, Patina Green, Feed Bob, Vintage General, and Studio de la Mer, just to name a few. From beautiful antique embroidered linens to authentic German glass glitter, the vignettes are havens for ideas, product uses and new decorating concepts that will make any home warm, inviting and earth friendly.
Smitten is located on the southeast corner of E. Louisiana and S. Tennessee on the Square, in Downtown McKinney. Their hours are 10:00am – 5:00pm, Monday through Saturday, and 1:00pm – 5:00pm on Sundays.
